A broking practice has rules: no carrier below A-, three admitted declinations before surplus lines, a senior look at big increases. Usually they live in a procedures manual and in the heads of the people who wrote it. InsightPlacement puts them in the Rules Studio, as sentences a practice leader can read, test against real placements and publish — and the product runs them on every placement, every time.
A control is a sentence
# PREMIUM_JUMP — Recommended program costs 25% more than the expiring when recommended program cost against the expiring is more than 25% then refer to a practice leader: "The recommended program costs more than 25% over the expiring: a practice leader reviews the marketing before the proposal goes out."
How the Studio shows a control: the condition, the effect and the message.
Each control is built from the placement’s fields — days to effective, readiness, loss runs missing, SOV gaps and age, TIV, markets approached, quotes received, lines with one quote, quotes and selections below the floor, unappointed selections, selections short of the limit, surplus lines picks, the fewest admitted declinations, the program change, expiring premium, home state, renewal or new business, and stage — and one effect: warn, refer to a role, or block.
The ten starter controls

|---|---|---|
SECURITY_FLOOR | A selected carrier is rated below A- | Block |
SL_DILIGENT_EFFORT | A surplus line has fewer than three admitted declinations | Block |
NOT_APPOINTED | A selected carrier isn’t appointed | Refer to compliance |
PREMIUM_JUMP | The program costs more than 25% over the expiring | Refer to a practice leader |
LIMIT_SHORT | A selected quote is short of the limit asked | Refer to a practice leader |
LOSS_RUNS_LATE | Under 60 days with loss runs missing | Refer to a practice leader |
MARKETING_LATE | Under 45 days with no market approached | Refer to a practice leader |
SOV_STALE | The SOV is more than 365 days old | Warn |
SOV_QUALITY | More than 10% of SOV rows have gaps | Warn |

Draft, test, publish
A change starts as a draft. The draft is tested against real placements — which would it fire on, with what outcome — before anyone feels it. Publishing creates a new version; the hits on the decision record always name the version that fired. Only leads create and publish rules; everyone can read them.
Where a control’s result shows up
- On the placement’s side panel and in its Compliance zone.
- On the decision record, with the rule version and the evidence.
- As a prepared sign-off from the supervisor agent when it refers; as a held bind order when it blocks.
- As an insight on Home for the account’s team, ranked by what it is worth.
- In the Studio’s 30-day hit counts, which show which rules are doing work and which are noise.
The Studio itself is shared across the Insight broker products: InsightAdvocate’s claim controls live in the same Studio with their own rule type.
